ARE YOU READY FOR A NEW ADVENTURE?
After years in which we have dealt exclusively with Tuscany, we cross borders by discovering fascinating and distant lands.
In the 2023 a new appointment, the main appointment for an off-road motorcyclist, the desert, a dream come true and the choice fell on perhaps the most beautiful desert "ALGERIAN DESERT", where the sand joins the rocks and everything together looks like a lunar landscape, where time has brought to light ancient graffiti that remind us that the area has been inhabited since the first moments of the history of our planet.
The desert is always adventure and fascination but once you have seen and crossed the TRADART desert everything else will be a little less fascinating.
The tents for the overnight stay can travel on the trolley, sleeping bags, bags with equipment for riding a motorbike. Of course we will put a size limit, you will not be allowed to bring more than one bag. They travel in a trolley so they must be protected from rain.
We will often sleep in tents, usually the night in the desert is cold, therefore it is necessary to wear suitable clothing. First check your PASSPORT
In Algeria, along road transfers, the Gendarmerie NORMALLY (in Africa, never take anything for granted) does not allow to drive from dusk (ore 18.00) at dawn (ore 7:00) and can impose camps in places established by it, usually near checkpoints, even if there is a hotel booked a few km away, therefore on the road section we cannot provide for stops in hotels which should be booked and paid for in advance. If we get there in time and decide to use them, we will only know on the spot.
Moreover, unfortunately, experience has taught us that in Algeria, more than in other countries, it is not impossible that the police or the military, from evening to morning they "close" a certain area. The region we have chosen for this trip is unquestionably, as well as one of the most beautiful, also one of the safest in all of Algeria and is far from “hot” areas. In any case, so that what has already happened to others does not happen to us too, we already have “plan B” ready, equally beautiful.
-Cruise passengers (assistance and own car). Appointment at the port of Civitavecchia at 15:00, boarding and departure scheduled at 19:00. Cabin accommodation, meals included.
2° Day Sat 18-2 Km 80
-Cruise passengers (assistance and own car). Arrival at the port of Tunis scheduled for 23:00 landing, custom clearance. Road transfer to Hammamet. Overnight in an excellent hotel (where we will arrive late at night if not at dawn). If the customs procedures lasted longer than normal, the overnight stay in Hammamet would be skipped.
3° Day Sun 19-2 Km 400
Wake up in no hurry and transfer by road to Tozeur. Free lunch. Dinner and overnight in an excellent hotel.
4° Day Mon 20-2 Km 250
Transfer to Algerian border, 60Km, (normally expected up to 5/6 hours in customs, but you never know: if, for example, we found the border blocked by a large group of tourists, it would certainly not be enough). We should easily reach Touggourt, likely, but not guaranteed (as well as the time spent at the frontier it will depend on the will of the escort they should give us) where we will settle in the hotel. Free lunch (sandwiches at the border?). Dinner and overnight at the hotel if we arrive in time, not included, or in the field along the road.
5° Day Tue 21-2 Km 650
Wake up early. Transfer to Tin Fouye. Dinner in a truck driver's restaurant (more than decent by Algerian standards) and overnight in a youth hostel (very bad, but with a negligible cost and certainly there is nothing better for hundreds of kilometres). Who wants, it is obviously free to sleep in your own tent in the parking lot of the same using the bathrooms.
6° Day Wed 22-2 Km 510
The best part of the journey begins: we will cross the first large dunes on asphalt and we will reach the splendid region of Illizi and the town of the same name near which we will stay overnight. Free lunch (little restaurant?). Dinner at the camp or restaurant and overnight at the camp, hostel or hotel, not included, (we will decide it together based on the arrival time, at the weather... and to the will of the majority) .
7° Day Thu 23-2 Km 400
We will cross what was once the “infamous” (for the stony track conditions) Plateau of Fadnoun and it was covered in at least two days of suffering, from 2000 it is crossed by a mountain road full of curves, but well paved. We will reach a high altitude and then descend and meet the sandy plain that we will cover on asphalt to reach Djanet in the evening. We will probably visit at least one of the two oases of Iherir and Dider along the way, which require a small variation from the ideal path, but if as it is probable we will be in order with the times we will certainly take advantage of it. In Djanet we will settle in a very good (by local standards, be clear) tourist facility.
8° Day Fri 24-2
-Cruise passengers (assistance and own car). Unloading of the motorbikes and free day. -Airborne. Flight from Europe with connection in Algiers. Flight Algiers-Djanet at 22:00 of 24 February and appointment in Djanet at 02:40 of 25 February. Transfer to the hotel and overnight.
9th Day - 13° Day Km 500 circa
Motorcycle exhaust, supplies, all this while the correspondents will arrange for the permits to be obtained (they can only be done on the spot with passports in hand: we will have to be patient, a lot of patience). As soon as possible, certainly in the afternoon, we will leave “the civilized world”. In the next few days we will cover a ring south of Djanet which will consist of about a hundred kilometers of asphalt and
several hundred beautiful off-road vehicles in one of the most spectacular regions of the whole Sahara. Five days of breathtaking scenery that will include silted up riverbeds, rocks with the strangest shapes, dunes spread over the cliffs and in cordons (be clear that it is not a trip "to make dunes", although, especially with motorcycles, there will often be an opportunity to "step on" some of them), graffiti and neolithic paintings among the most beautiful in the world. But what do I have to explain? Just say Tadrart, Tenère Algerian (they have banned it for the moment, but we continue to insist with the guides who do the same with the authorities) and Erg d'Admer and whoever has a minimum of knowledge of the Sahara gets goosebumps (others just type it into Google). Dinners and
overnight stays in the camp among breathtaking landscapes. On the 13th day we will return to Djanet in the evening, fuel and water supply. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
14th Day - 17° Day Km 500 circa
Replenishment of fresh food and early morning departure. Second part of the journey, this time the northern loop: again Erg D'Admer, the guelta of Essendilene, Timras and Tikabaouine and their labyrinth. On the 17th day, to finish off beautifully, we will visit one of the most famous rock graffiti, the crying cow, and from there we will set up camp in a spectacular spot near Djanet, to allow us to spend a good half day relaxing around the oasis. Loading of motorbikes and refueling. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
18th Day 6-3 Km 900
-Airborne.
Flight Djanet-Algiers after midnight on Sunday, all 03:15 on Monday 6 March, arriving in Algiers at 5:30. Flight to Europe with destination and time chosen by the participant. – Cruise passengers, day off.
19th Day 7-3 Km 900
- Cruise passengers. Wake up early. We will begin the ascent. Dinner at the restaurant and overnight at the Tin Fouye hostel (same as the outward journey) if we get there in time, or in the field along the road.
20° 8-3 Day Km 650
Transfer on asphalt along Algerian roads, very scenic and little frequented outside the cities. We will drive to Touggourt. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Touggurt, or in the field along the road.
21th Day 9-3 Km 240
-Cruise passengers. Fortunately, the exit from Algeria is much faster than the entry, short transfer in Tunisian land up to Tozeur where we should arrive quite soon after a few hours at the border (or maybe we will continue to shorten tomorrow's stage), dinner and overnight at the hotel.
22th Day 10-3 Km 400
-Cruise passengers. Transfer to Hammamet. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
23th Day 11-3
Transfer to Tunis. Appointment at the port at 20:00. Departure of the ship scheduled at 23:00.
24th Day 12-3 -Cruise passengers. Navigation
25th Day 13-3
Arrival of the ship in Civitavecchia scheduled for hours 08:00.
